Information

These Millipedes are originally from Tanzania. They are still very young and grow slowly, but can eventually grow to 6 inches or longer. We ship them between 5 and 10 centimeters. Of course we guarantee that these special animals will arrive alive.

Appearance

This species has orange and green rings. She has a nice slim body. The collum (main shield) is colored orange. The antennae and legs of Spirostreptus spec. 1 beautiful orange colored. In male animals the 7th segment is strongly thickened.

Behavior

Spirostreptus sp. 1 is a quiet, economical strain and therefore the ultimate beginner strain. It can live up to 5 years and becomes sexually mature after about 2-3 years. As adults, they often remain on the surface during the day and are easy to observe.

Food

The organic material in the substrate is mainly used as food, but additional food such as vegetables, fruit and centipede food is also happily accepted.

Environmental requirements & Housing

They come from the dry Savannah of Tanzania, for example. You can keep the humidity at: 50-60%. This species is considered very undemanding, but a temperature of 21°C-26°C and humidity of 60-80% should be aimed for.

A tank for Spirostreptus spec. 1 must have a minimum surface of 40 cm x 40 cm and must also be at least 40 cm high. The substrate should be spread 10 cm high, better higher. The animals are mainly active at dusk and at night, so no additional lighting is required. To keep the surface moist, it is advisable to cover it with leaves, pieces of bark or moss. Climbing branches should not be missing in the enclosure.
